LandBase seeks to provide opportunities to those wishing to involve themselves in land based activities on a range of levels, and to close the gap between the growing interest in rural living and skills, and the lack of structured learning facilities for new entrants to small-scale food production in the UK. LandBase will provide experience led, affordable, long-and short-term courses for motivated land-workers, both current and aspiring.
To encourage this groundswell of interest, LandBase proposes a flexible programme of modules tailored to individual needs, based at Monkton Wyld Court in West Dorset. There are many relevant smallholding and sustainable farming projects nearby, broadening the scope of learning experiences on offer. LandBase’s aim is to meet the needs of all who seek to establish viable community centred, rural and resilient businesses quickly and efficiently, especially those from an urban background with little, or no, formal agri-hortic training. Sustainability is key: the long-term aim is to help foster a world in which people can earn their livelihood from the land without denying one to their children and grandchildren.
